My dearest Chris

I am writing in answer to your letter of last July which however I only received on Saturday, as it being enclosed in your Father’s arrived just after the Sobraon had left so was sent after him to Melbourne and he when ???? last mail enclosed it to me. So at last after many wanderings it has come to its proper owner.

How pleased I was to get it and hear of all your doings. I need scarcely say, we are all so glad to hear you are doing so well and hope Alex ????

???? only three weeks old.

The Days has [sic] been to Antwerp to going to Bombay.

We are expecting to see your uncle Walter tomorrow.

Your aunt Bessie has been so ill but now I am glad to say is better and I hope will be strong by the time they leave next week. She did not go to Antwerp but stayed at your uncle Robert’s. She had a bad attack of bronchitis before arriving and the fogs of last week renewed it.

It will be a good thing for you and Alex to be together, though I wish you were much nearer to us. I should like to have a good long chat with you both.

Have you heard that Mr. Nowell is married. His wife is very nice. She had frequently stayed in Poplar so we knew her before their marriage.

Your aunt Jeannie sends her love and says she would like to write to you but her sight is so bad now she cannot do so.

With best love to both Alex and yourself. Hoping soon to get a nice long letter.

Believe me, your loving Aunt
