Dear Chris
I have been trying to get the things you asked me to in Melbourne but have not been able to yet. They do not seem to have any shoes canvas without the India rubber tops to them, and as for the knife I have not seen one anything like the one I gave you last year.
I have asked Mr. Willoughby to look out for a dog as he is often at the market and I think it very probable that he will drop across one before long, if so I will send it up by the first steamer. We can settle up anything that we have to when we meet up next year, as I have not bought anything yet and it will be too late to get an answer after this.
The Williamsons wished to be remembered to you.
I have been staying up at Gisborne for three or four days with the rest of the family. I got a little shooting. Alex is rather disappointed at not being allowed to join you, but I don’t think it will do him any harm having to tough it a bit in Melbourne first.
Believe me, your affectionate Brother
