Explanatory Notes
Christopher Tatham Elmslie was a recorder and a collector. His detailed diaries are in four volumes. The first, a bound volume of 324 handwritten pages interspersed with photographs, covers his life from his birth in 1860 up to 1890. The second volume covering the period 1890 to 1902 is partly handwritten and partly typewritten, again interspersed with photographs. A third volume comprises photographs only. The fourth volume deals with Chris’ life from 1902 to 1914, by which time he was living in Sydney where he remained until his death in 1931.
