My dear Chris
I hope you will be home about Tuesday – so instead writing you a
few lines now so that it may catch you at Plymouth.
We want to have a little dance in honour of your Edie, and Archie and I could
arrange to give it on the 7th. That would be Friday week if you can get away for the time. You must write as soon as possible and let me know as I shall
want to secure the people.
Do not say a word about it to the Poplar people as I cannot ask them.
I thought if you could manage to get away over the Sunday we could have a picnic on the Saturday. I am going to ask two of Archie’s friends the Miss Kennedys down. Send me a few lines and say if you can do this.
We are all well and going on much in the old way. I have very little spare
time this morning so please excuse more.
With much love, yours affectionate
C Elmslie
Dear Chris
We shall be glad to see you at home where all are well.
The Sobraon sails on 20 September. I have been in hopes of staying at home for good this year but as matters stand just now it cannot be. Captain Williams is in a dying state but will not release his hold of Devitt & Morre’s
ships – although strictly forbidden to engage in business of any sort or have anything to disturb his mind submitted to him.
Archie has been attending the ship as an officer for some weeks past. He is going out on 3rd.
I’m hoping to find you well.
I am, your loving Father
J A Elmslie
