Hugh Kerr, 16 February 1886.

My dear Elmslie

Your letter of 21 January came to hand by this mail and in regard to shares in the quartz crushing company I wouldn’t advise you taking any up, not that I do not think Croydon will turn out well but I have never seen a public crushing company pay dividends. This may be the one to upset my ideas.

Bob MacIntosh goes down by this boat and can give you all information about the field as he has been there.

Excuse this letter being so abrupt. I have a lot of business letters to write yet and the mail closes in less than an hour.

With kind regards

Yours faithfully

Hugh Kerr
