My dear Chris

Your letter and photo of 3 February came an hour ago. I am very pleased to get them before I go tonight, and to know that you keep in such good health.

I have nothing more to say about the Queen shares. Do just as seems for the best. You cannot foresee what may happen in the course of a month or two. A war in Europe will no doubt affect the whole of the Colonies seriously for a time, and Croydon will feel its influence no doubt. However a war will be sharp and short, and will soon pass away.

I have nothing more to say or rather have no time to say it, so please ask Alec to excuse me for not having written to him, and with much affection to both –

I remain, your loving Father

Jas A Elmslie

PS: I am very much pleased with the photo. You had better send one of Alec’s house.
